Major Alan Edmonstoune Greenshields Leadbetter

Today marks the centenary of a matriculation of arms for Major Alan Edmonstoune Greenshields Leadbetter, younger son of the architect Thomas Greenshields Leadbetter. Alan was decorated for gallantry at Gallipoli but was then killed near Ypres in August 1917, aged 20.

His grieving father petitioned for differenced arms for Alan the following year as well as having a memorial window installed in Bedrule Parish Church, Roxburgh.

Happy International Polar Bear day 2018! Lyon Clerk has produced a fine crest of a polar bear from the Lyon Register. It belongs to a commander in the Royal Australian Navy.

On the evening of Friday 23rd February the Lord Lyon proposed the Toast to the Nine Trades of Dundee at the Biennial Dinner of the Incorporation of Weavers of Dundee. The Dinner was held in the Weaver's Room for Verdant Works Dundee.

The Lord Lyon accompanied by Linlithgow Pursuivant attended the Court of the Merchant Company of Edinburgh and announced the conferring of the title "Royal " on the Company, as approved by the Queen.

Lyon talks to the Tay Probus Club.

The Lord Lyon gave a talk to the Tay Probus Club in Perth. There were 50 members present who asked various questions on the Court of the Court of Lord Lyon. There was particular interest in the arms of Hydro Electric Scotland Arms.

The Lord Lyon as President of the Scottish Genealogical Society conducted the AGM. There were around 50 members in attendance. After the AGM Dr Morrow gave a lecture for the first time entitled ' Clackmannan and the Mormons '.
