Governor of Edinburgh Castle

 The Lord Lyon, Marchmont Herald and Carrick Pursuivant took part yesterday in the installation of Major General Alastair Bruce of Crionaich OBE as Governor of Edinburgh Castle. The ceremony was much delayed and cut-down by Covid restrictions.

The artist was Clare McCrory and the blazon is: Or, three piles Sable, charged with three sea unicorns Or. Crest: A demi-lion Gules, rmed and langued Azure, charged with a sea-unicorn Or holding in its dexter paw a sword erect in pale Proper, hilted and pommelled Or.

The artist was Garry Millie and the blazon is: Azure, a chevron Gules fimbriated Argent, in chief two goldfinches Proper and in base a cross engrailed Or. Crest: A lion rampant holding in his dexter paw a cresent all Or.

St John's Day 2021

  Sadly the usual ceremonies to celebrate St John's Day have been postponed by both Orders but here are their Arms to mark the day. Arms of the Priory of Scotland of the Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem (left) and those of the Sovereign MIlitary and Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, of Rhodes and of Malta (right).

Sir Crispin Agnew of Lochnaw Bt, LVO, Q.C.

 We warmly congratulate Sir Crispin Hamlyn AGNEW OF LOCHNAW Bt. LVO, Q.C., Rothesay Herald of Arms, on being created a Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order by Her Majesty The Queen, marking forty years service as an Officer of Arms.

Sir Crispin was appointed Unicorn Pursuivant in 1981 and advanced to Rothesay Herald in 1986.

Feast of St Columba

 We mark the feastday of St Columba by showing his picture in the first and fourth grandquarters of the arms of The College of the Holy Spirit, Cumbrae recorded in 1874. The other grandquarters show the arms of the 6th Earl of Glasgow who commissioned the building from architect William Butterfield.
