Lyon Court Videos

 The Lyon Office now has a Youtube Channel in addition to its Vimeo Channel. The recent sitting of the Lyon Court in Edinburgh can be viewed HERE.

From our files 100 years ago

  The last grant of 1921 was to the Scottish Motor Trade Associaiton, founded in 1903 and still going strong.


The blazon is: Argent a lion rampant Sable armed and langued Gules. Crest: the figure of Mercury courant holding a caduceus in his sinister hand, his dexter raised and pointing upwards all proper.

New College Tapestry

 While at New College, Edinburgh, for its Carol Service on Friday, Lyon took the opportunity to inspect the magnificent new tapestry in Rainy Hall, designed by Andrew Jamieson (left), of the arms granted recently on the occasion of the College's 175th anniversary.

St Andrewstide Service

 The Lord Lyon and all the Officers of Arms attended the St Andrewstide Service at St Giles Cathedral with the Knights of the Order of the Thistle. The service included a new anthem by Sir James MacMillan in memory of Sir Eric Anderson KT.

Order of St John Carol Service

 The Lord Lyon attended the Aberdeen Area Committee of the Order of St John Service of Lessons and Carols in Mannofield Church and was honoured to read a lesson. The St John Festival Choir sang and the event was presided over by the Area Chair, Mr Joe Mackie.

Memorial Service for Anthony Maxwell

Rev. Dr Joseph Morrow conducted a Memorial Service for the late Anthony Maxwell who died last January at the height of lockdown. Mr Maxwell was a widely resepcted heraldic artist.

Alex Maxwell Findlater FHSS read the lesson and a warm and affectionate tribute was paid to Anthony by Gordon Casely FHSS.

Some of Anthony's friends are putting together a book of his work and would be grateful to people who had their arms or other materials drawn by him to submit them with a description to this address:
