Lyon in Glasgow

 On the 14th September the Lord Lyon attended Morning Worship in Glasgow Cathedral to mark the double Thanksgivings of the 85th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain and the 100th Anniversary of the 602 (City of Glasgow) Squadron Royal Auxiliary Air Force.

Edinburgh 900 - Riding of the Marches

 Rothesay and Albany Heralds with Bute Pursuivant represented the Lord Lyon at the procession and Riding of the Marches to mark the end of the Edinburgh 900 anniversary celebrations. The Grand Marshall was the well-known Scots entertainer Grant Stott. HRH the Princess Royal honoured the Ride by joining the cavalcade for the final approach to the Mercat Cross.

Exiles Lunch

 The Lord Lyon attended the Edinburgh Exiles Society Ceremony and Lunch held in the New Club on the 13th September in advance of the Edinburgh 900 Riding of the Marches tomorrow, the 14th September, which will be led by the Lord Provost of Edinburgh and The Princess Royal.

The 2024 Standard Bearer handed over the flag to Dr Colin Cunningham, this year's bearer. The bussin’ is to tie a ribbon with the Standard Bearer’s name on it to the flag. The Court of the Lord Lyon will join tomorrow's Procession.

City of Glasgow Squadron Centenary Dinner

 The Lord Provost of Glasgow welcomed the Lord Lyon to the NO 602 (City of Glasgow )Squadron  RAUXAF-Centenary Celebration and Civic Dinner held in the City Chambers on the 12th September. The Dinner was presided  over by the  Commanding Officer Squadron Leader James Martin.

New Matriculations

 The Honourable Andrew Lockhart McLachlan was granted arms in 2020:


William Stewart Michielin McLachlan, second son of the above, matriculated 2025, with a bordure Or for difference.

Alasdair Lockhart Michielin McLachlan, third son, matriculated 2025, with a bordure Argent for difference.


The arms were painted by Clare McCrory, Herald Painter.

Blazon: Azure three salmon Or fretted on a chief wavy Argent three crosses pattée fitchée Gules.
Crest: a demi marsupial lion (Thylacoleo carnifex) rampant Gules (charged, in the son's cases, on the shoulder with a Maltese cross Sable fimbriated Argent) holding between its paws a flagstaff bendwise sinister Sable from which flies a square flag Sable charged with a rising sun Or.


Lyon in Aberdeen

 The Lord Lyon was the guest of the President of the Society of Advocates in Aberdeen President’s Dinner. held in the magnificent building of the Society. The Society was granted Supporters in 2024 to mark its Centenary.



March to St Giles

 Mike Currie and his wife Stacey presented the Lord Lyon with a print of their commissioned march "March to St. Giles" which will receive its Edinburgh premiere on Sunday, September 14 when Composer Pipe Major Stuart Currie will perform his work atop the City Chambers building.

 As New Register House will be closed on Monday September 15th 2025, the Lyon Office will not be open on that day,

Swedish Visit

 The Lyon Office hosted 19 guests today from Riddarhuset, Sweden’s House of Nobility. Lyon Clerk, Russell Hunter gave a presentation, and the group was given a tour of many aspects of the Lyon Office by Herald Painter, Clare McCrory and Office Manager, Kevin Greig.

Friends of St Paul's Cathedral Dundee

 The Friends of St Paul Cathedral Dundee in the Diocese of Brechin held a meeting in the Cathedral  and were given a talk by the Lord Lyon on Scottish State Ceremonial . The Cathedral was founded by Bishop Alexander Penrose Forbes and designed by  George Gilbert Scott.






Submariners' Memorial

 On the 6th September the Lord Lyon attended the  Annual  Memorial Service for those who were lost in submarines. It was attended by personnel from the UK, Norwegian and Dutch Navies. The Memorial is situated in Dundee Harbour and was opened by HRH The Duke of Gloucester.

Duchess of Kent RIP

 The Lord Lyon and Officers of Arms send their most sincere condolences to the Royal Family on the death of the much loved HRH The Duchess of Kent. May her sweet soul rest in peace.

Lyon talks to Forfar Group


 The Forfar University of the Third Age Heraldry Group held a launch meeting on the 5th September and the Lord Lyon gave them a lecture on “An Introduction to Scots Heraldry". The next meeting will  look at the Town Heraldry of Angus with presentations from the members.
