Carrick installed as Chancellor of the Diocese of Brechin

 On Sunday 27th August 2023, Carrick Pursuivant Sheriff George Way of Plean was installed as Chancellor of the Diocese of Brechin of the Scottish Episcopal Church by Bishop Andrew Swift at St Paul’s Cathedral Dundee.

Lyon becomes Lord President of the Deans of Guild

 The Lord Lyon was Installed on 25th August as Lord President of the Court of Deans of Guild of Scotland in the Town House, Aberdeen He was robed by Colin Taylor past Lord President .The Lord Provost hosted the occasion.

March attends wreath-laying

 March Pursuivant was invited to a wreath laying ceremony at the grave of peace campaigner Bert Bissell by representatives from Fort William and Dudley after their annual charity climb of Ben Nevis. The ties between the towns were then celebrated by an exchange of civic banners.

 Russell Hunter, Lyon Clerk and Keeper of the Records, gave a talk this morning in St Vincent's Church, Stockbridge, on Scottish Ecclesiastical Heraldry, as part of the Festival of Sacred Arts. [Please excuse the poor photograph].

Honour for Elizabeth Roads LVO

 Elizabeth Roads AIH, LVO, OStJ, formerly Snawdoun Herald, was awarded the rare honour of Honorary Membership of the Swedish Heraldry Society at the Heraldry Colloquium in Lund, Sweden, in honour of her immense contribution to international heraldry.

Happy Birthday, Ma'am!

 Today is the birthday of Her Majesty the Queen. Here are the Queen's arms and those Her Majesty's father, Major Bruce Shand, matriculated at the Lyon Office in 1980.

 

Lyon in Malawi

 The Lord Lyon visited the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital Balantyre Malawi to present a donation for the work of Operation Smile providing interventions for those who have cleft pallets and lips . The work of Smile Malawi was impressively explained by Ms Desiree Mhango.

Ms Mhango studied for a Master's degree at Queen Margaret University Edinburgh.

Royal Celtic Society Lecture

 The Lord Lyon attended the Royal Celtic Society Summer lecture given by Elizabeth Roads LVO, Secretary to the Order of the Thistle, on "Scottish Coronations - their Form and Legacy".

Honours of Scotland - People's Procession

The Honours of Scotland

The Procession for the ceremony of the Presentation to the King of The Honours of Scotland yesterday consisted of three "pods" or diamond shaped groups, each consisting of an Honour borne, accompanied by a member of the Royal Company of Archers, two Escorts and an herald.

The first "pod" surrounded the great Elizabeth Sword.

The magnificent new Elizabeth Sword, replacing the ancient Sword of State which was too fragile for the occasion, was presented to the King by one of Scotland's greatest Olympians Dame Katherine Grainger DBE, Chancellor of the University of Glasgow.

The second "pod" surrounded the great Sceptre.

The Sceptre was presented to His Majesty by the Lord Justice Clerk, Lady Dorrian. 

The third "pod" surrounded the Crown of Scotland.

The Hon. Adam Bruce, Marchmont Herald, Lochlan Sweaton Head Boy of Balwearie High School, Ailsa Russell Head Girl of Clydeview Academy, The Duke of Hamilton and Brandon, Lord Bruce.

The Duke of Hamilton and Brandon, hereditary bearer of the Crown of Scotland, presented it, the oldest Crown in the United Kingdom, to His Majesty.
