New Heraldic Glass

The Trades House of Glasgow has begun a project in association with City of Glasgow College to provide each of the crafts with a stained glass window in the Royal Infirmary. First up is the Incorporation of Wrights. The Clyde winds its way through the centre of the window and the stylised shell is a reference to the Royal's spiral staircase.

The Incorporation of Wrights was granted arms in 1924 as follows:

Parted per fess dovetailed Gules and Or, in chief an ancient Scots nail hammer and axe in saltire surmounted of a wright's chisel edge downwards paleways and in base the half length figure of St Kentigern affronté vested and mitred his right hand raised in the act of benediction and having in his left hand a crozier all proper.
