Stories from the Register - John Stewart Birrell

 Today, February 22nd marks the centenary of the Arms granted to John Stewart Birrell, eponymous proprietor of one of Glasgow's best-loved institutions. The cocoa-tree crest and the three "chequy roundels" like  foil-wrapped sweets give the clue to the nature of the business.
