New Grant of Arms

Grahame of Duntrune and Claverhouse

 Today's edition of "The Times" carries the obituary for Iain Grahame of Duntrune and Claverhouse with a fascinating account of his heroic work in the Uganda of Idi Amin. May he rest in peace.

Death of Niagara Herald Extraordinary

 We note with sorrow the death in Canada of Gordon Macpherson, Niagara Herald Extraordinary, who designed so many beautiful heraldic bookplates to be found all over the world. May he rest in peace.

Historic Football Match

 Historic Scotland-England football match tonight. The friendly match between Scotland and England first took place in November 1872.

Lyon and Rothesay at Livery Dinner

 The Lord Lyon and Rothesay Herald were guests at the joint Dinner in Edinburgh City Chambers of the Worshipful Company of Wax Chandlers of London (Master Dame Fiona Woolf), the Worshipful Company of Gardeners of London (Master Nicholas Woolf), and the Incorporation of Candlemakers of Edinburgh (Deacon Gordon Rutter).

Submarine Memorial

 The Lord Lyon was honoured to laid a wreath for those “who are still on patrol” on 9th September during the Annual Memorial Service held at the Submarine Memorial in Dundee. The Memorial was opened by HRH The Duke of Gloucester in 2009.

Lyon visits Aberdeen Advocates

 The Lord Lyon was the guest at the President’s Invitational Dinner at the Society of Advocates in Aberdeen. The dinner was held in the historic Advocates Library in the centre of Aberdeen and the speaker was Sheriff Douglas Cusine. The Society will be 250 years old next year.

Lyon at Dundee University

 The Lord Lyon gave the Opening Lecture at the Lifelong Learning Group at Dundee University .

The lecture was held in the Dalhousie Building and fifty people were in attendance. The lecture was entitled "The History of the Court of the Lord Lyon."

Lyon escorts HRH the Duke of Gloucester

 The Lord Lyon as Vice Lord Lieutenant of the City of Dundee  escorted HRH Duke of Gloucester on his visit to Dundee which ended in the V&A Dundee and the Tartan Exhibition.

Unicorn in Aberdeen

 Unicorn Pursuivant (first mentioned in a 1426 charter of Aberdeenshire lands) addressed the City of Aberdeen Ladies Probus Club this morning on several local themes, including Royal Deeside, in honour of the 8th September anniversary of the death of Hm Queen Elizabeth.

Rothesay Herald at Livery Dinner

 Rothesay Herald was a guest at the Glasgow in London Dinner of the Trades House of Glasgow and Livery Companies of London in the Guildhall.

Lyon gets in the Groove

 On the 1st of September, the Lord Lyon successfully completed the “test” to become a mason within the Three Trades of Dundee (united in 1761) under the supervision of the Clerk Allan Keillor. The test was to carve a groove in to a piece of stone using a hammer and chisel.

Carrick installed as Chancellor of the Diocese of Brechin

 On Sunday 27th August 2023, Carrick Pursuivant Sheriff George Way of Plean was installed as Chancellor of the Diocese of Brechin of the Scottish Episcopal Church by Bishop Andrew Swift at St Paul’s Cathedral Dundee.
