At the investiture in the Order Pro Merito Melitensi, the Order of Malta's Order of Merit, at the end of Mass, it had been intended to invest the late Major-General Mark Strudwick CBE, former Prior of the Venerable Order of St John, in the rank of Grand Officer with Swords. The introit For the Fallen by Douglas Guest was performed in Mark's memory, the composer, former organist at Westminster Abbey, being the father of Mrs Sue Strudwick to whom we send our sincere condolences, as we do to Mark's son and daughter.
